AKBAR-BIRBAL: EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR THE BEST
From the Akbar-Birbal Classics, here is another one :
Akbar-Birbal: EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR THE BEST !
Birbal always looked happy, even when things went wrong.
Once Emperor Akbar asked him,
” Birbal, how do you manage to stay so calm even under harsh conditions ?”
Birbal said ” Jahanpanah, I believe everything happens for the best. And so I do not tend worry about small mishappenings.”
Akbar disagreed to Birbal’s statement even when Birbal insisted on believing it.
On the same day, Emporer Akbar and Birbal were sitting in the palace lawn and eating fruits.
Suddenly Akbar cut one of his fingers while trying to cut a fruit by mistake and his finger started to bleed.
On seeing this, all the servants panicked and immediately sought help for the Emperor.
But Birbal said “Everything happens for the best.”
On hearing this, Akbar was furious and ordered the guards to throw Birbal in the prison.
To his shock Birbal again repeated his statement and said, “Everything happens for the best.”And just like that Birbal was imprisoned.
The next day,
Emperor Akbar and his guards went for hunting in the jungle.
After a few minutes, Akbar noticed a deer and chased it into the forest.
While chasing the deer, Akbar got separated from his guards and got lost in the deep forests.
Before he knew, he was surrounded by a group of tribal people.
They looked dangerous and captured Akbar to take him as an offering for their festive dinner.
Akbar was unable to call help and was tied and carried to the tribal community.
On the time of the festive dinner offering,
the group of tribal men came close to Akbar who was tied and gagged.
Akbar had lost hope for his survival and was ready to be cut down by the tribal people.
Just then one of the tribal men noticed a minor cut on Akbar’s hand that he had got from cutting the fruits a day before.
He immediately informed the tribe leader about the cut on Akbar’s finger.
As it was against the tribe’s ritual to serve a festive offering who had any kinds of fresh cuts on his body, Akbar was released unharmed.
He was allowed to return back out from the forest to his palace.
On returning, he immediately summoned a guard to release Birbal,
as he recalled that Birbal had said ” Everything happens for the best” when Akbar had cut his finger and that cut had actually saved the Emperor’s life.
After being released, Birbal was called to the court and Akbar narrated his whole story and how the cut saved his life.
Birbal was happy to hear the story.
Akbar still had a question and he asked Birbal -” Birbal tell me one thing ,
I got that the cut on my finger benefited me, but even when I sent you in prison, you said the same lines,
Everything happens for the best.
What good was going prison for you ? “
To that Birbal replied-
” Jahanpanah, if you would not have sent me to jail yesterday,
I would have definitely accompanied you into the forest for hunting.
You would have been saved by the cut on your fingers, but I would have surely turned into a delicious offering for the tribal people.”
On hearing that the whole courtroom erupted with laughter and Akbar agreed to Birbal’s statement and everyone in the courtroom repeated,”Everything happens for the best ! “
Birbal was right, once again.
