” ONE DAY AT A TIME “

ONE DAY AT A TIME

One day at a time,
your body is learning how to feel again

To feel something besides
the bite that gets the venom out,
the burning coals in the pit of your stomach
and the way they reach into your throat,
yearning painted black

You are learning to want things that are good,
that the best option is not always the hardest—
that sometimes,
the awkward space between
is the room you need to breathe

Slowly, you’re starting to believe
that you deserve good things

The air around the future,
is still soft and foggy
it can’t even see itself,
yet but you believe in it

ONE DAY AT A TIME

You believe in a world
that is not fixed but
a little less broken
and that you will belong there,
that you will know yourself
a little bit more

When your reach into that space,
the room beneath the door where
something new might be
you are brave again.
You are the person you’re meant to be.
